Title:  Desperate measures

Author:  Laura Summers

Collection:  Juvenile Fiction

Desperate Measure relates the story of three children, twin 13 year-old girls and a 10 year-old boy, who run away from their foster home when they discover that their social worker plans to split them up.  It is told in first person with chapters alternating between the perspectives of the two girls, one of whom suffered oxygen deprivation and brain damage during birth.  As the story unfolds, the children meet many interesting people and come to grips with the their mother’s death and their father’s subsequent imprisonment.  They also discover the meaning of friendship and family along the way.  But don’t worry, Summers gives us a happy ending that may stretch credibility, but not break it.
