Title:  Carte blanche : 007 : the new James Bond novel

Author:  Jeffery Deaver

Collection:  Adult Fiction

A James Bond thriller set in the present day finds the iconic British spy engaging a horrific modern villain in a cat-and-mouse chase that takes him from the Balkans and London to the African Continent.

Although I’m not really a reader who gravitates towards the suspense/thriller genre, I have seen all of the James Bond films over the years from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig.  So, I decided to give this new novel a try to see what happens to Bond.  Deaver gives us a new James Bond in Carte Blanche.  This Bond is just starting out in his career as a spy.  We get to find out about his first meeting with M, and how he is recruited.  This is a Bond with a conscience, which I personally like, but others may not.   I do not want to give away any of the plotlines, but suffice it to say that the story is a quick read, with lots of action, villains who are truly twisted, and a main character that you can root for.
