Special Event: An Afternoon with Author Sherman Alexie

   Tomorrow, September 23rd Noon  The Allegany County Arts Council in partnership with the Allegany County Library System, Allegany College of Maryland Center for Continuing Education, the Cumberland Times-News and Main Street Book present An Afternoon with Sherman Alexie, author of the 2011 One Maryland One Book book, filmmaker, and poet.

The event will take place at Allegany College of Maryland’s College Theatre. Alexie will begin speaking at noon, followed by a question and answer period and book signing. Copies of the book will be available to buy at the event.

The 2011 book selection is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, a semi-autobiographical work of fiction that details with humor and grace the life of Arnold Spirit (a.k.a. Junior), a budding cartoonist living on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Washington State. It tackles the issues of poverty, bullying, and family struggle. One Maryland One Book is designed to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book. Maryland Humanities Council is the organizer of OMOB and co-sponsor/host of the author tour.
