Title:  Melvin and the Boy

Author:  Lauren Castillo

Collection:  Children’s EZ Books

When a boy finds a turtle basking in the sun at the park he thinks he has found the perfect pet, but the turtle only seems happy at bath time. Includes facts about turtles.

Although I’ve never had a turtle for a pet, they have always been one of my favorite animals.  When a little boy, who is looking for a pet, finds Melvin at the park, he takes him home, thinking he has finally found the pet he was looking for.  But, Melvin is shy around friends and seems….sad.  Was it a mistake to bring Melvin home?

The book is beautifully told and illustrated, and I also enjoyed the Turtle Facts at the end of the story.  Did you know Box turtles can live for more than 100 years?  I also learned that turtles have excellent eyesight and senses of smell.
