Shelter by Harlan Coben

    Review by:  Lisa

Title:  Shelter

Author:  Harlan Coben

Collection:  Teen Books

After tragic events tear Mickey Bolitar away from his parents, he is forced to live with his estranged Uncle Myron and switch high schools, where he finds both friends and enemies, but when his new new girlfriend, Ashley, vanishes, he follows her trail into a seedy underworld that reveals she is not what she seems to be.

This book was recommended by Debbie at the George’s Creek Library at a recent meeting.  She praised the book as one that you would have trouble putting down, and boy was she right!  I was thoroughly engrossed, and Mickey is a terrific  protagonist that I think many teens will identify with, along with the new friends he makes along the way in the story.  The ending seems to be set up for future books in this series, which I look forward to.

Teen Read Week is an initiative of the  Young Adult Library Services Association(YALSA). Teen Read Week started in 1998. This year’s theme is Picture It @ your library®, which encourages teens to read graphic novels and other illustrated materials, seek out creative books, or imagine the world through literature, just for the fun of it. Libraries across the world celebrate Teen Read Week with a variety of special events and programs aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure and to visit their libraries for free reading materials.

To help celebrate, the Allegany County Library System Collections Blog will feature books that teens will love to read!
