Title:  Weird history : a twisted tour of America’s bizarre past

Authors:  Matt Lake and Randy Fairbanks

Collection:  Childrens Non-Fiction

The authors are famous for their “Weird America” series of books.  I had read Weird Maryland, Weird Pennsylvania and Weird America and enjoyed the stories and fun facts.  This book is a children’s book, but after reading it, I realized that I don’t know everything weird about our country, and learned a lot.  It covers people who are universally famous, infamous and just famous in their own localities…emperors to skunk ladies.  Yes, America once had an emperor!   The authors included lots of weird pictures, and funny comments that make it fun for young and old alike.  I think this is the kind of book that can be used as a launching pad for kids.  They can read about a weird event or person, and then dig deeper to find out more about the interesting facts.  And they can impress their friends and families with tidbits that are funny and true!  This is a fun book for all ages.
