Ayn Rand’s timeless novel of rational self-interest comes to life for a new millennium.  The year is 2016, and America is on the verge of economic disaster. The greatest citizens are being targeted, and dark forces are working to bring about America’s final days. Our only hope for salvation lies with Dagny Taggart and Henry Rearden, rugged individualists whose bold ideas may have the power to spark a revolution and reclaim to the American Dream.

Rand referred to Atlas Shrugged as a mystery novel, “not about the murder of man’s body, but about the murder — and rebirth — of man’s spirit”.   Her stated goal for writing the text was “to show how desperately the world needs prime movers and how viciously it treats them” and to portray “what happens to a world without them. (Harriet Rubin, The New York Times, September 15, 2007)

I have not read Rand’s books and am unfamiliar with her philosophies, but regardless, found the movie to be entertaining and thought provoking.  Because the movie is part 1, the viewer is left with a cliff hanger ending that sets up a ready audience for part 2.
